CoursesBC/MyCreditsBC Webinars for Student Advisors

A full schedule of webinars and workshops on two of our student service tools is on the horizon following the success of sessions offered earlier this year.

Four webinars covering the basics of CoursesBC and MyCreditsBC are scheduled for:

  • November 6, 2012 (Tuesday) 10am – 11am
  • November 7, 2012 (Wednesday) 2pm – 3pm
  • February 12, 2013 (Tuesday) 10am – 11am
  • February 14, 2013 (Thursday) 2pm – 3pm

CoursesBC (coursesbc.ca) is a directory of online and distance courses offered at B.C.’s public post-secondary institutions. Transfer credit information is also displayed.

MyCreditsBC (mycreditsbc.ca) allows students from participating institutions to retrieve their unofficial academic record together with transfer credits for applicable courses.

Early this year student advisors from all 25 B.C. public post-secondary institutions were invited to attend one of eight CoursesBC training and awareness-building webinars. Over 70 registered for these workshops scheduled between February and June 2012.

It was quickly apparent that these sessions not only fulfilled training needs, but created a forum for advisors to offer feedback and share experiences concerning this service. Several of these suggestions have since been implemented such as adding an Institution Code reference to the CoursesBC site and enhancing answers to frequently asked questions under the Help link. Participant interest in MyCreditsBC led to inclusion of this student service in later sessions.

These webinars generated several invitations to present this material at other venues including a dedicated training session at Capilano University’s campus in North Vancouver and at the BCADA conference in April at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
