We know that many students enjoy having a printed copy of their textbook, so we are pleased to announce our print on demand service for open textbooks.
Students and faculty using open textbooks from the BC Open Textbook collection can now order low cost printed versions of the textbooks via our print on demand partner Document Solutions at Simon Fraser University.
How to order
To order a print copy of the textbook, go to the textbook page in the BC Open Textbook collection. In the available formats you will see a button and a link that says “Buy a print copy”. Here is an example from the Database Design book in our collection.
Clicking this link will take you to the book order site at SFU.
From here, choose whether you wish to purchase a colour or black and white version of the textbook in the “Choose an option” dropdown. From there, follow the prompts to fulfill your book order. The book will be shipped directly to you.
Costs
We have made every effort to keep the costs of the printed version of the textbook low (and remember, the digital versions are always free).
The cost of the printed versions of the textbooks is variable and depends on a number of factors, including the number of pages that the textbook has, and whether you choose a colour or black and white printed copy.
Most textbooks are available for under $30 for a printed copy, and shipping is between $5-$10 depending on how quickly you wish to have the book delivered.
Here are the approximate costs for each textbook (as of November, 2013). Note that these are estimates and the actual price may be higher or lower when you checkout.
