This is an external event hosted by the University of British Columbia.

Are you looking for a permanent open access home for grant-funded research outputs, open education courses, or exceptional student work but not sure where to start? cIRcle, UBC’s digital repository, is home to more than 75,000 scholarly works and offers preservation and discovery solutions for a variety of media from digitized out-of-print books to field research images. In this session, cIRcle Staff reviews the basics of what you need to know to deposit in cIRcle and how to apply these principles to other platforms such as a project website or YouTube.

At the end of this one-hour session, you will be able to:

  • Identify common cases when you need a license to share work and which ones may apply
  • Understand key metadata principles and why they are important for finding your work
  • Make file format choices that support long-term preservation
  • Know when to use cIRcle, another platform, or both
