BCcampus is looking for someone to join our team in the role of Director, Collaborative Projects and our lead on Indigenous engagement. We value leading with compassion with a lens of equity. About the role:

BCcampus has three service units: Learning and Teaching, Open Education, and Collaborative Projects. The Collaborative Projects unit works with government ministries, institutions, and other organizations on limited term projects, facilitating the project process from proposal through implementation on multiple complex projects at a time. Convening, facilitating dialogue, analysis, and reporting are just a few of the activities undertaken. The Director keeps an overall view of all the projects and provides training, support, mentorship, and guidance to the project managers leading the individual projects, in addition to the unit’s project support staff. Often the first point of contact for a BCcampus project, the Director must keep the available and potential expertise and resources at BCcampus in mind, in addition to the alignment of each proposed project with our core mandate, values, and goals. The ability to manage multiple complex tasks and to hold multiple perspectives are crucial competencies for this role.

BCcampus has been working in Indigenous engagement over the past several years in many ways. The person in this role is responsible for leading this vitally important work with the support of the rest of the BCcampus leadership team. This includes supporting the unlearning and learning of the BCcampus team and leading the development of goals and ways of engaging in this work with the B.C. public post-secondary system. Specifically, this position works with Indigenous educators, researchers, scholars, leaders, and communities to better support decolonization and Indigenization at BCcampus and in the B.C. post-secondary system.

The position reports to the Executive Director and is part of a supportive, collaborative, and growth focused leadership team.

The person in this role needs to be able to do the following:

  • Direct the research, design, management, delivery and, where appropriate, sunsetting of multi-institutional projects on behalf of B.C. post-secondary institutions, government, and partner organizations
  • Lead the planning and development of Indigenization and decolonization of practices and policies within the BCcampus organization, including those related to human resources, project management, and community engagement
  • Build relationships and collaborate in a positive way with Indigenous educators, elders, researchers, scholars, leaders, and communities to support Indigenization and decolonization in the B.C. post-secondary system
  • Build partnerships with other organizations in provincial, national, and global contexts
  • Balance multiple inputs from stakeholder groups with evidence grounded in research and practice
  • Prepare reports and related information for the Ministry of Advanced Education and other audiences
  • Build compelling business cases and proposals and support BCcampus colleagues in doing so
  • Manage the Collaborative Projects unit budget and individual project budgets
  • Determine staffing requirements to meet organizational needs
  • Hire and lead internal staff and contractors
  • Lead geographically distributed teams
  • Help employees establish and reach professional development goals
  • Manage ambiguity and conflict in a positive manner and assist others in doing so
  • Share knowledge openly
  • Establish strong, positive, respectful relationships
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and strong team culture at BCcampus

  • Deep knowledge of and experience with the appropriate application of project management methodologies
  • Extensive experience leading collaborative initiatives and consensus building with diverse and complex stakeholder groups, including government
  • Lived experience working in relationship with Indigenous communities and educators

You may notice this position does not require a master’s degree. We are very conscious of the barriers to post-secondary education for many people with lived experience in oppressed communities. Others may have gained this experience in other ways and we honour and respect that.

What it’s like to work at BCcampus

BCcampus has two physical office locations, one in downtown Victoria and one in downtown Vancouver. At this time, both are closed due to the pandemic. When we are allowed to return to the workplace, BCcampus employees will have the option of working in one of these spaces or continuing to work from home or another location of their choosing.

BCcampus is supportive of family lives: we enjoy a 35-hour work week, have options for flexible work schedules, and take five weeks of vacation per year.


The salary range for this position is: $111,556 – $123,072 annually.

In addition, BCcampus employees receive 5% of their salary in lieu of pension contribution and are provided extended health and dental benefits.
