Protection of privacy

At BCcampus, we follow the guidelines outlined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) to protect the personal information shared with us or through our services. The FIPPA guidelines focus on the collection, disclosure, retention, and storage of personal information.

As educators and advocates for educational technology, we need to ask ourselves:

  • Do we need to collect personal information, and if we do, are we storing it in a secure environment?
  • What could happen if this information were to be accessed through a breach in security?
  • Is the technology we are using able to keep our student and partner information private?

To help the post-secondary institutions of B.C. adhere to FIPPA best practices, we have curated this selection of privacy papers that are specific to our learning community:

Privacy and Cloud-based Educational Technology Conference

In April of 2011, we hosted a Privacy and Cloud-based Educational Technology Conference, with 100 participants from B.C.’s post-secondary institutions, focusing on identifying mutual concerns regarding the changing privacy landscape. View the summary of recommendations for more information.
