Consider this YOUR invitation to participate in the First Steps into Learning and Teaching in Higher Education massive open online course (MOOC) 8 May – 14 June, 2013. BCcampus (SCoPE) is pleased to be collaborating with Oxford Brookes University by assisting with planning and facilitation, hosting and supporting the weekly real-time course activities, and helping to spread the word. This course will be of interest to new faculty, as well as those interested in trying out new things. It is also an opportunity to strengthen your professional support network.
From the MOOC Website:
This open online course has been designed around the key principles of
- autonomy
- diversity
- openness and
- interactivity.
Autonomy because you can choose whether or not to be assessed and the degree to which you engage with the course. Diversity because the course is open, attracting participants from across the world, who bring with them a wide variety of resources and expertise. Openness because the course is free, open to anyone and relies on open sharing of knowledge. Interactivity because learning across such a distributed group will depend on connectivity and frequent interactive communication. A basic course structure and additional support for those choosing to be assessed is provided.
As you can see, this course is for everyone who is involved in teaching. And if you haven’t experienced a MOOC, this one comes highly recommended because it is designed and facilitated by a team of brilliant educators who have invested time and energy into researching and formulating effective practices for planning and facilitating open, online courses.
