BCcampus Releases Digital Literacy Hub

BCcampus is thrilled to announce the release of the B.C. Digital Literacy Hub. Working in collaboration with B.C. post-secondary educators and the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (the Ministry), this collection of course and professional development materials anticipates transforming the way educators approach digital literacy by offering a wealth of resources tailored for both teaching and learning.

Empowering Educators with Tailored Resources

At the core of this collection are resources designed to meet the needs of educators: both those eager to enhance their own digital literacy skills (“Learn It”) and those searching for materials to integrate seamlessly into their courses, thereby empowering their students to increase their digital literacy skills (“Teach It”).

In creating the B.C. Digital Literacy Hub, we recognized that to elevate digital literacy in the classroom, we must first equip educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to make a difference for learners.

All the resources in the B.C. Digital Literacy Hub are openly licensed and sourced from the B.C. post-secondary system. To ensure quality and relevance, a committee of experienced educators from the B.C. system vetted each resource.

This initiative is a pivotal part of the Ministry’s Digital Learning Strategy. By actively participating in the hub’s creation, educators contributed to a broader initiative that will shape the digital education landscape in B.C. Alignment with the Digital Learning Strategy ensures the materials are not just informative, but also strategically valuable.

Download, Adopt, Integrate

We encourage educators to download these customizable resources, adopt them for their teaching plans, and integrate them into their courses. We also invite educators to explore our eight digital literacy competencies and take our Digital Superpower Quiz — a fun element that adds an interactive dimension to the learning experience.

For easy access to the B.C. Digital Literacy Hub, bookmark digitalliteracy.bccampus.ca. Here, educators will find everything they need to enhance their teaching and enrich their students’ experiences. Let’s unlock the potential of digital literacy for educators and learners!

Notable Quotes

  • “From the beginning, the goal of this project was to create a simple and practical collection that centres educators’ needs in addressing digital literacy development. We recognize the heavy workload that many educators carry trying to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of the digital age. To relieve educators from the burden of finding high-quality resources, we convened two working groups of educators, instructional designers, librarians, and educational developers from the B.C. post-secondary sector to review and select the open education resources for this project. Their guidance was crucial to ensuring this collection is a valuable space for B.C. educators looking to teach digital literacy and improve their own digital skills.”
