BCcampus is hosting the second annual Digital Learning Strategy Forum in November 2024, sharing best practices, lessons learned, and forward-thinking approaches to enhance digital capacity within post-secondary education across B.C.
Over two days in Vancouver and online, the Forum’s program will offer opportunities for participants to explore projects underway to build capacity and align with B.C.’s Digital Learning Strategy (DLS). Participants will engage with experts, collaborate on innovative practices, and share best practices to support the ongoing adoption and implementation of the DLS in post-secondary institutions around the province.
“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural Forum, this year’s event will engage more participants in person and online and will feature presentations focused on the Digital Learning Strategy and its implementation across B.C.,” said Amanda Coolidge, executive director of BCcampus. “We invite post-secondary educators, staff and leaders responsible for teaching, learning, and technology to join us for this province-wide gathering designed to foster cross-institutional sharing and collaboration.”
Schedule and keynote speakers
Anchoring the 2024 Forum’s program will be keynote speakers, Maha Bali and Lucas Wright. Maha Bali is professor of practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Maha is the co-founder of Virtually Connecting, a grassroots movement that challenges academic gatekeeping at conferences, and a co-facilitator of Equity Unbound, an equity-focused, open, connected intercultural learning curriculum.
Lucas Wright is a senior education consultant at the University of British Columbia with more than 14 years’ experience, specializing in learning technology and design, particularly in the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence.
As the keynote speakers share their insights and experiences, their contributions promise to inspire and equip participants with the tools needed to advance digital education in British Columbia.
A detailed event schedule will be shared shortly. The diverse program will include lightning talks, interactive sessions, 25-minute presentations and a challenge series inviting participants to put the Digital Learning Strategy into action by creating actionable steps and strategies to guide institutional decision-makers.
Registration
Admission to the Digital Learning Strategy Forum on November 13-14, 2024, is free. The Forum is being held at Simon Fraser University, Harbour Centre Campus in Vancouver, B.C. Registration is now open for both in-person and online attendees.
2023 Digital Learning Strategy Forum
Outcomes of the inaugural 2023 DLSF are shared in a report summarizing the presentations and workshops. Thirty-eight participants from 20 institutions across the province represented the breadth and diversity of B.C.’s post-secondary education sector at the Forum.
It explored initiatives to build capacity within the post-secondary system and align efforts with the Digital Learning Strategy. This was particularly crucial in strategic areas where collaboration across multiple institutions has been identified as a key determinant for success. Presentations included overviews of how organizations and post-secondary institutions are implementing the DLS and gave participants the opportunity to share learnings and best practices.
