Developing opportunities
To support the Government of BC’s Early Care and Learning Recruitment and Retention Strategy, we are working with instructors and subject matter experts to develop up-to-date standards and competencies to guide early childhood educators in their learning and practice.
The resources created through the Early Childhood Education Standards of Practice and Occupational Competencies Project will support an enhanced level of competency for new graduates and form the basis for recognition of post-secondary programs by the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s (MCFD) Early Childhood Education (ECE) registry.
Working with MCFD as the project champion and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training as a project sponsor, we will form and coordinate a steering committee and working group to guide this project. A small group of subject matter experts and writers will develop the project deliverables, which will include the ECE Provincial Standards of Practice, a Competency Framework, and a Program Guide. The steering committee will review the project resources in August 2019.
