We are very pleased to announce the executive members of the British Columbia Teaching & Learning Council (BC-TLC):
- Co-Chairs: Liesel Knaack (Vancouver Island University) & Stephanie Chu (Simon Fraser University)
- Chair-Elect: Susie Findlay (Vancouver Community College)
- Past Chair: Peter Arthur (University of British Columbia – Okanagan)
This dynamic, diverse group brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and connection in higher education in the province. Between them, they offer representation from colleges and universities, membership in RUC-BC, BCAIU, and BC Colleges, as well as some geographic diversity: the lower mainland, Vancouver Island, and the Interior/Okanagan. Combined with the fact that the BC-TLC members come from all publicly-funded post-secondary institutions appointed by VPAs (or equivalent), we are very excited about the potential of the BC-TLC to do great things to advance teaching, learning, and learning technologies in our province.
Looking ahead, here are some thoughts from the executive:
“It is my hope that through the Council, we will leverage the extensive expertise in BC, collaborate and share resources to build networks and local capacities. Furthermore, that as a collective, we will inform and influence decisions related to supporting faculty and programs to actualize significant educational experiences for BC students.” – Stephanie Chu
The Council will be a wonderful opportunity, through collaborative groups, to provide BC faculty and instructors with access to high quality professional learning experiences and resources – locally, regionally and provincially so that we build sustainable and accessible supports for the design of outstanding learning experiences for our post-secondary students. Additionally, this Council will be a supportive and influencing voice for advancing and enhancing a culture of teaching and learning in our institutions by ensuring appropriate directions and initiatives are highlighted and given importance across the province. – Liesel Knaack
I look forward to working with the Council to create a forum for the exchange of ideas, provide post-secondary educators with professional development resources and opportunities, and support and advance teaching and learning at our diverse institutions. I believe our collective voice will increase awareness of the issues, challenges, and best practices in teaching and learning and will inform decisions that impact students’ educational experiences. – Susie Findlay
The province of British Columbia possesses a rich bounty of teaching and learning leaders. I think the benefit of the Council will be to draw on the collective wisdom and energy of the leadership to synergistically work on meaningful initiatives that ultimately enhance teaching and learning in British Columbia. – Peter Arthur
