Background
In response to requests made by B.C. rural post-secondary institutions for online Sexualized Violence and Misconduct training modules for fall 2020 student orientation, the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training and BCcampus asked DKS consulting to prioritize the identification of these resources, given tight timelines. An environmental scan resulted in the identification of online resources that could be adapted by these institutions and that addressed the priorities outlined in the SVM Evaluation Toolkit.
Working with DKS Consulting, it was determined that the online resources created by the Research Universities Council of BC met the needs of the rural post-secondary institutions. These modules form a good basis for orientation to sexualized violence and misconduct training. They were evaluated against the toolkit and fall short on training on root causes of sexualized violence. Given a longer timeframe, additional resources to address these gaps will be shared, adapted, or created going forward.
BCcampus has worked with Royal Roads University to provide access to these resources in a format that B.C.’s post-secondary institutions can adapt and host on their own platforms. Post-secondary institutions will need to work with their IT teams and web development teams to access these resources and have them inserted into existing platforms or to create a home for these resources at their institution.
