Let’s look back at the fiscal year 2021–2022 and chronicle what we’ve done over the past 12 months as we work together to bring value to the teaching and learning community in B.C.
Post by the BCcampus editorial team
The annual review for BCcampus is a way for us to track our progress year over year, letting us see what we’ve done to support the 25 post-secondary institutions of B.C. and documenting the wide range of projects we take on every day. The 2021–2022 annual review is now available online, with PDF versions of previous reviews available in the annual report archive.
Not Your Typical Annual Review
If tables and graphs and stats and projections are what you envision when you think of an annual review, you’re in for a bit of a surprise. Our review takes a story-based approach to share what we’ve done over the past 12 months, with links to the original articles for anyone interested in reading more about each topic.
We’ve broken our activities into four categories to represent the various projects we were a part of over the past year:
- Inclusion — Creating, sharing, and promoting ways to improve access to learning
- Learning — Activities we participated in to support educators seeking ways to improve their practice
- Doing — Programs and activities we delivered or led through in-person or virtual sessions
- Leading — Actions and strategies we shared to bring our learnings to the various institutions throughout the province
Improving the Process
Our current approach for presenting information was first implemented in our 2016–2017 annual review, and we’ve been refining the process to collect and collate the information each year. By using categories consistently on our blog posts, we can quickly assemble all the activities we’ve completed during the year — within the fiscal year we completed them — and then add them to the relevant section to highlight our work. This approach ensures we include essentially everything we’ve reported on and is an efficient way to deliver the information to our readers and supporters.
Notable Quotes:
“Through the creation of the Pulling Together series, we were introduced to the concept of ‘nothing about us without us.’ We have taken this concept and morphed it into a methodology for our work, ensuring we include the people we research to find out what they truly need or want while encouraging ourselves to overcome our inherent assumptions and biases.”
