Introduction and Statement of Purpose

In partnership with the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, BCcampus is managing a revision of the Health Care Assistant Program: Supplement to the Provincial Curriculum Guide (2015). In 2022 the ministry funded a revision of the Health Care Assistant Program Provincial Curriculum, published in Pressbooks in June 2023.

We invite applications for an editor with experience working with provincially standardized curricula to assist BCcampus and subject-matter experts in editing the Health Care Assistant Program: Supplement to the Provincial Curriculum Guide (2015) to align with the newly revised Health Care Assistant Program Provincial Curriculum.

Scope

The editor will review and edit the Health Care Assistant Program: Supplement to the Provincial Curriculum Guide (2015).

Editing the Health Care Assistant Program Provincial Curriculum 2023 is out of scope of this project.

Deliverables

  • Copyedit sections of the Health Care Assistant Program: Supplement to the Provincial Curriculum Guide (2015) as they are completed by working groups.
  • Copyedit the complete draft of the supplement(approximately 260 pages and 61 000 words).
  • Provide editorial assistance and advice on updating the supplement in Pressbooks.
  • Proofread the supplementafter layout in Pressbooks is complete.
  • Meet with the project manager, instructional designer, project coordinator, and subject-matter expert as needed throughout the duration of the project.

Time Lines

Time lines for submission:

  • Submit proposal by January 26, 2024.
  • BCcampus will award the contract on February 9, 2024.

Time lines for work related to this project:

  • Editing sections as they are completed: February–March 2024
  • Full draft supplement edit and upload to Pressbooks: May 2024
  • Final proofread: June 2024

Expectations of Selected Applicants

The following skills and deliverables are expected of successful applicants:

  • Comfortable working collaboratively with subject-matter experts, advisory committees, and provincial ministries
  • Able to provide guidance and support for the Pressbook update, layout, and navigation
  • Able to ensure the resource meets accessibility guidelines and is copyright compliant
  • Able to ensure the resource uses a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, which allows others to freely retain, copy, modify, remix, and redistribute the content
  • Can complete the work in the agreed on timeframe
  • Will provide all source and editable files used to create the resource, including multimedia files, to enable further remixing and modifications

  • Description of your experience with provincially standardized and health care curricula
  • Breakdown of tasks needed to meet deliverables
  • Time line for each task
  • Estimated budget to meet all deliverables, including hours and hourly rate
  • Curriculum vitae

The total amount of each service contract does not include GST. Payment will be tied to deliverables and based on hours worked.

Proposal Evaluation Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on experience with the following:

Approach

  • Project steps and milestones are clearly articulated and can be reasonably met.
  • Proposal clearly states an understanding of the target learner, deliverables, and intention of the project.
  • Content meets interoperability and accessibility standards.

Experience

  • Role of the editor and relevant experience are clearly described, including:
    • Experience working with provincially standardized curricula
    • Experience working with health care curricula (considered a strong asset)

Budget

  • The budget is reasonable given the work proposed.
  • The budget clearly shows when the project work and related expenses will occur.

The successful applicant will be contacted for further discussion and next steps.
