BCcampus is offering up to $1000 in funding to support institutional events during Open Education Week, March 3–7, 2025. This initiative aims to help our provincial partners highlight achievements and promote awareness of open education.

Funds Available

Each successful proposal will receive a maximum of $1000 in event funding. Funds are available for up to ten events.

Who Is Eligible to Apply

This opportunity is open to post-secondary institutions, departments, student unions, and other organizations in the B.C. and Yukon post-secondary systems. We encourage applicants to seek matching funding from their institutions, but this is not necessary to secure a sponsorship.

Examples of what this funding could be used for include, but are not limited to:

  • Honoraria for guest speakers on topics related to open education
  • Awards and/or ceremonies for high-impact open education advocates and initiatives
  • Workshops on subjects like open publishing, open technologies, or open advocacy
  • #TextbookBroke events or similar awareness-raising events focused on the cost of educational resources and how open education can mitigate these costs
  • Catering and facility fees for an in-person lecture or panel discussion on open education, open initiatives, open educational resource projects, success stories, challenges, etc.

Events can be in person, virtual, or hybrid.

Projects to create open educational resources (e.g., textbooks, videos, lecture slides) are not eligible for this funding.

Deliverables

The main deliverable for this funding is an event held during Open Education Week 2025. As part of the funding agreement, BCcampus must be acknowledged by displaying its logo on promotional materials, and by providing verbal acknowledgement during the event.

After the event, the funding recipient is required to submit a brief report describing the event and how the funds were spent.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement

We encourage applications from institutions that are committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, particularly those that support members of communities facing historical and/or current barriers to equity, including but not limited to:

  • Individuals who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)
  • Members of groups that commonly experience discrimination due to race, ancestry, colour, religion and/or spiritual beliefs, or place of origin
  • Persons with visible and/or invisible (i.e., physical and/or mental) disabilities
  • Persons who identify as women
  • Persons of marginalized sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions

We recognize many of these identities intersect, and therefore equity, diversity, and inclusion can be complex. We value the contributions each person brings and are committed to ensuring full and equal participation for all in our community.
