BCcampus is accepting applications for funding to host events for Open Education Week 2024.
Background
BCcampus received a grant from the Hewlett Foundation to fund events for Open Education Week 2024. We wish to help our provincial system partners raise the profile of and celebrate accomplishments in open education by providing up to $1000 in funding to sponsor institutional events that promote open education during the internationally recognized Open Education Week, which takes place March 4–8, 2024.
Funds Available
Each successful proposal will receive up to $1000 in event funding. Funds are available for 10 events.
Who Is Eligible to Apply
This opportunity is open to post-secondary institutions, departments, student unions, and other organizations in the B.C. and Yukon post-secondary systems. We encourage applicants to seek matching funding from their institutions, but this is not necessary to secure a sponsorship.
Examples of what this funding could be used for include but are not limited to:
- Honoraria for guest speakers on topics related to open education
- Awards and/or ceremonies for high-impact open education advocates and initiatives
- Workshops on subjects like open publishing, open technologies, or open advocacy
- #TextbookBroke events or similar awareness-raising events focused on the cost of educational resources and how open education can mitigate these costs
- Catering and facility fees for an in-person lecture or panel discussion on open education, open initiatives, open educational resource projects, success stories, challenges, etc.
Events can be in person, virtual, or hybrid.
Projects to create open educational resources (e.g., textbooks, videos, lecture slides) are not eligible for this funding.
Deliverables
The main deliverable for this funding is an event held during Open Education Week 2024. BCcampus support should be recognized during the event by prominently displaying the BCcampus logo on promotional materials and by verbal acknowledgement.
After the event, the funding recipient is required to submit a brief report that describes the event and how the funds were spent.
