This project is supported by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training (AEST), and led by BCcampus and an advisory group of students, staff, and faculty from B.C. post-secondary institutions (PSIs). BCcampus provides evidence-based, collaboratively designed and developed, openly licensed learning resources for B.C. post-secondary institutions (PSIs) and sector partners.

This project supports AEST’s work with sector partners on several mental health and wellness initiatives as part of a government-wide approach to improve mental health and substance use services for British Columbians.

Purpose/Goal

This document outlines phase one of a two-phase project. The purpose of the larger project is to provide access to education and training resources for staff and faculty to support students attending B.C. PSIs who are experiencing mental health and wellness concerns.

The purpose of phase one is to expand on an environmental scan to identify, evaluate, and make recommendations about existing resources in the post-secondary and community contexts as well as to identify gaps and provide recommendations for the development of new resources.

To support this project, BCcampus developed a Framework for Evaluating Mental Health and Wellness Education and Training Resources that outlines key considerations.

Phase two of this project will focus on access, adaptation, and development of education and training resources for staff and faculty to support student mental health and wellness based on the recommendations in phase one.

Scope

Using the Framework for Evaluating Mental Health and Wellness Education and Training Resources, phase one focuses on the identification and evaluation of the currently available mental health and wellness education and training resources in the B.C. post-secondary system and in the community. This evaluation will provide the basis for recommendations on the use and adaptation of existing resources, identify gaps in existing resources, and provide recommendations for the development of new mental health and wellness education and training resources.

Deliverables

The deliverables for phase one include the following:

  1. Expand on the existing environmental scan to include community education and training resources that could be adopted or adapted for use by B.C. post-secondary faculty and staff.
  2. Evaluate existing education and training resources using the Framework for Evaluating Mental Health and Wellness Education and Training Resources.
  3. Building on steps one and two, identify gaps in education and training resources.
  4. Identify copyright licenses and delivery modes for existing resources.
  5. Provide a full report with recommendations for education and training resources for B.C. post-secondary staff and faculty to support student mental health and wellness. The full report should include an executive summary, clear justification for the recommendations in phase one, and appendices with references, data tables listing all resources evaluated, and other relevant details outlined in this call for proposals.

Timeline

Completion date for phase one: September 30, 2020.

Budget

Proposal budget should include all hourly charges, travel, associated costs, and GST, as noted in the proposal template.
