New Collaborative Program web sites to be launched May 4

Changes are coming to the web sites for the Collaborative Programs: ABT (Applied Business Technology), NCIT (Northern Collaborative Information Technology) and AECE (Aboriginal Early Childhood Education).

As of May 4, 2011, each Collaborative Program will have its own web site. Instead of reaching the programs through the BCcampus portal, users will go directly to each program’s own self-contained web presence for everything related to that program. Check back here (or your email inbox if you are a student) closer to launch date for the URL addresses.

BCcampus hosts online collaborative program web sites on behalf of the institutions that participate in these programs. The new sites will be changing to better meet the needs of students and the institutions participating in these programs, and will better represent the fact that collaborative programs are the result of many insitutions working together.

Right now, everyone gains access to collaboratives through portal.bccampus.ca. The portal brought together several BCcampus services, which became confusing. In fact, we’re dismantling our portal altogether and turning all our services into more discrete, self-contained web presences, including PASBC (which will become ApplyBC.ca on June 16, 2011) and Course Finder (which will become CoursesBC).

At the same time BCcampus and those institutions participating will be upgrading Desire2Learn, the learning management system used by the Collaborative Programs and offered as a shared service to BCcampus clients, to version 9.1.

That’s a lot of change in a very short time frame. We’re doing everything we can to ensure a smooth transition, but as always we’re preparing for the inevitable hiccups. Please bear with us as we do our best to keep services running smoothly during the transition. Our Help Desk will be on hand to assist and to document any glitches.
