To help launch Open Access Week (October 19-25th, 2015), BCcampus is offering a workshop “Designing Accessible Open Educational Resources: a Hands-on Workshop” on Monday, October 19th from 10:00 am -11:30 am at SFU Harbour Centre, Room 1315. This 1.5 hour workshop will be facilitated by Amanda Coolidge, BCcampus. Amanda is Manager, Open Education at BCcampus working on the BC Open Textbook project, as well as, one of authors of the recently released published BC Open Textbook Accessibility Toolkit, a collaboration between BCcampus and CAPER-BC. This kit was developed to highlight what creators (such as instructional designers, educational technologists, librarians, administrators, teaching assistants) need to know to make truly open and accessible textbooks and materials for students.
Topics covered from the Toolkit will include:
- What is Universal Design?
- What content is challenging from an accessibility perspective and how do we make them accessible? e.g. images, tables, weblinks, multimedia, formulas.
Participants are invited to bring the educational materials they are currently developing (powerpoints, documents, courses, etc.) or planning to develop and these can be worked on in the hands-on part of the workshop. Amanda will also provide some sample cases should participants require materials.

Faculty, librarians, instructional designers, curriculum developers, content creators, educational technologists, librarians, administrators and teaching assistants.
