Upcoming Learning Opportunities at BCcampus

The first quarter of 2017 features four events to add value to your teaching and learning practices and environments.

The Professional Learning team at BCcampus is hosting a pair of workshops in February, offering unique and powerful ways to facilitate learning. There is also an online EdTech Demo in January, and a course about facilitating learning online – delivered online – starting in February.

VizEd – Visual Practices in Post-Secondary Education – February 21, 2017

Hosted by the brilliant pairing of Nancy White and our own Tracy Kelly, this full-day session is bound to be informative, evocative, and effective. This hands-on workshop introduces basic drawing skills and a variety of visual practices, frameworks, and templates to support learning and facilitation in the post-secondary context and beyond.

The workshop is scheduled for February 21, 2017 at SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver. Click here for more information and to register.

Liberating Structures 2017 – February 22 – 23, 2017

Faculty, instructors, learning designers, and leaders can get hands-on practice with seriously fun tools and methods to engage learners in the classroom, boardroom, or wherever facilitation is needed. Attendees will practice choosing and using Liberating Structures for individual facilitation challenges and contexts. This two-day workshop at SFU Harbour Centre is led by Nancy White and a team of B.C. post-secondary colleagues, and promises to be fun and educational.

Tickets are still available, with a discounted group rate when four or more attendees register from the same institution.

EdTech Demo: Grav CMS as a Personal Open Platform in Education

Join us on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 at 11am for our next free and open EdTech Demo webinar.

Grav is a database-free CMS that stores content in a flexible and easy-to-access file structure, which is ideal to take advantage of today’s modern ecosystem of collaborative tools like GitHub or GitLab.

In this presentation, Paul Hibbitts will demonstrate three possible educational applications of Grav: as a course hub; for open and collaborative blogging; and for authoring and sharing OER content.

Online Course: Facilitating Learning Online (FLO)

In this 5-week online workshop, participants develop the skills needed to effectively facilitate learning in online environments. FLO introduces research-based adult and online learning concepts, principles, and strategies that can make online facilitating fun and effective.
