June is Pride Month

In honor of the 1969 Stonewall riots and the demonstrations that took place the following year in major cities in the U.S., most cities around the world now hold Pride celebrations during the month of June. Pride parades, marches, and festivals have taken place for decades in major urban centers to improve visibility and acceptance and to advocate for legal justice and equality for our LGBTQiA2S+ community members. We also specifically recognize the transgender women of colour who deserve so much credit for their leadership and action in the early days of this movement.

At BCcampus we are committed to learning how we can be better advocates for all groups who face discrimination and marginalization. We recognize that while celebrating Pride is often about coming together, it is also individual and depends on what Pride means to you. As the Vancouver Pride Society explains on its website, celebrating Pride can mean celebrating on a COVID-friendly dance floor, reading a book, sharing family-friendly all-ages programming, or attending an educational workshop! Whatever Pride means to you, #ChooseYourPride.

We have complied a list of speakers, authors, influencers, musicians, and videos below that amplify and celebrate individuals’ incredibly diverse sexual and gender identities, including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit. Although we can’t necessarily be together in person yet to celebrate Pride, we can learn, share, and amplify one another in virtual spaces all month long and beyond.

We recognize this list is far from complete! If you would like to add to the resources below or think something is missing that should be shared, please reach out to us!
