Updated February 26, 1:00 p.m.
BCcampus recently identified a cybersecurity incident affecting the servers for pressbooks.bccampus.ca and opentextbc.ca. As soon as we became aware, we activated our incident response protocols and began investigating the situation.
At this time, Pressbooks may be temporarily unavailable as we work to contain and assess the scope of the incident. Protecting information and restoring full services is our highest priority. As such, we have locked all users out of editing pressbooks.bccampus.ca. This means that books cannot be edited at this time. This is in an effort to prevent any work from being lost.
What you should know:
- We are investigating the nature and extent of the incident.
- There is no evidence user data has been misused. If we discover specific information has been compromised, we will notify those affected directly.
- Our team has implemented additional safeguards and monitoring to protect our network during this period.
We understand the importance of transparency and will provide updated information as our investigation progresses. If you have downloaded copies of the books from pressbooks.bccampus.ca and opentextbc.ca, we encourage you to use those. You can also check web.archive.org to see if a virtual snapshot has been made of the book you are trying to access.
If the book you are trying to access is hosted in the B.C. Open Collection, contact open@bccampus.ca for a PDF.
Thank you for your understanding and trust.
