BCcampus is accepting applications for two subject-matter experts to review the open textbook Introduction to Psychology – 1st Canadian Edition based on the OER Equity Rubric and provide suggestions for revision.


BCcampus received a grant from the Hewlett Foundation to fund the adaptation of Introduction to Psychology – 1st Canadian Edition to be more equitable and inclusive. This textbook is well adopted in B.C., has not been updated since 2014, and has specific sections we know do not measure up to the BCcampus values and commitments around equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism. Our intention is to focus this adaptation on improving the book for all students and instructors who will use it in the future.

The first step of this project is to have the book reviewed for equity, diversity, and inclusion. This review will inform and guide the adaptation project.

BCcampus will post the call for proposals for the adaptation project once the review has been completed. Reviewers will be eligible to apply for the adaption project grant as well.

Who is Eligible to Apply

This opportunity is open to all psychology instructors employed at post-secondary institutions in B.C. or the Yukon. Preference will be given to instructors who are familiar with the textbook.

Preference will also be given to applicants who can demonstrate competencies related to equity and justice-focused education and making educational materials (or the field of psychology generally) more inclusive. This includes but is not limited to anti-racism, queer inclusion, disability justice, decolonization, and epistemic justice. Applicants who have lived experiences that inform their equity practices are encouraged to apply.

In addition, preference will be given to applicants who have assigned this textbook in a class or are otherwise familiar with it.


The main deliverable for this work is a written review that assesses Introduction to Psychology – 1st Canadian Edition against the following rubric:

The reviewer will

  • Describe how the textbook measures up against each dimension of the equity rubric.
  • Provide a set of recommendations on how to approach adaptation and suggested areas of focus.

Successful applicants will have from March 22 to May 8 to complete the review. Once completed, the review will be posted publicly under a CC BY 4.0 license.

Funds Available

Each reviewer will receive $500 on submission and approval of the written review. Funds are available for two reviewers.
