This project is now complete.
Centralized coordinated processes
We have been working with the Provincial Office for the Early Years on a pilot project since 2015 to coordinate training and resources and improve access for early years professionals in British Columbia. While the initial research found substantial training opportunities, it also revealed that the sector may benefit from an online resource to easily access and explore available training. The research led to the development of a professional development website called the Early Years Professional Development Web Portal (EYPD), supported and funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, and the Provincial Office for the Early Years in the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Research and iterative development
The EYPD Project has a three-year mandate to design a website in collaboration with leaders from the sector. This enables us to research the impact, uptake, and engagement as well as develop features and functions to improve usability for our intended audience. Since the initial release of the EYPD web portal in January 2017, several new features have been added to make it easier for users to find and manage relevant learning opportunities.
Specific functions on EYPD include:
- A countdown timer to keep track of licence expiration
- myEYPD, a personal professional development page to record professional development sessions attended
- A “Recommend Training” filter that displays professional development based on the user’s interests
- A calendar of professional development that shows training coordinators other training events happening throughout B.C. on any given date
