Are you in the BC post-secondary system and use or administer WordPress?
BCcampus and the BC Open Educational Technology Collaborative are developing a WordPress Community of Practice (CoP). WordPress is an open source publishing application currently in use at a number of British Columbia post-secondary institutions and organizations, including (among others) UBC, JIBC, UNBC, TRU, Capilano University, and BCcampus.
Purpose
The intent of the Community of Practice is to bring together current and future WordPress users, developers and technical administrators to develop and share best practices, provide ongoing support, and identify areas of potential collaboration. Specifically, topics that may be discussed by the CoP might include;
- Pedagogical, including exploring WordPress as a course delivery platform, or student ePortfolio tool.
- Technological, including developing scalable infrastructures, security, authentication, plugin and theme development, and platform customization.
- Academic Digital Identity, including dissemination and communication of research projects & results, and academic portfolios & blogs.
- Content creation, including the creation & publishing of academic and/or teaching materials.
And other topics as determined by members of the CoP.
Who should sign up?
While membership is open to all, our primary focus is on those who are currently in the BC post-secondary system and using WordPress as a pedagogical or academic tool. This could be teaching faculty, academic researchers, educational technologists, IT support and development (including programmers, developers and system architects), Instructional Designers, instructional media and content developers.
How will the CoP operate?
Methods of connecting and communicating will be determined by the members of the CoP, should there be sufficient interest expressed to develop the CoP.
