Ruth is from the Kwikwasut’inuxw Nation on her late mother’s side of the family and English on her father’s side. She grew up in Lekwungen territories. She is a proud mother, grandmother and auntie who has worked diligently to learn and uplift Kwakwaka’wakw teachings within her family. She has coordinated Kwaḱwala language classes and coached soccer within her community.

Ruth is an experienced coordinator with a dynamic work history in post-secondary Indigenous education. She carries a strong background in non-profit organizations, instructional design, facilitation, career counselling and research. She is a strong professional with a Master’s Degree focused in Social Work from the University of Victoria. Ruth is very passionate about bringing forward Indigenous stories into mainstream education that unravel the history we have been taught and facilitating conversations that begin to build stepping stones for a future we can all be proud of.

She also facilitates TELTIN TTE WILNEW: Understanding Indigenous Peoples, an award-winning, blended delivery course which provides insight into an Indigenous world view; describes the impact of colonization and how it affects students attending the college today; and guides participants in the development of new teaching and learning methods.
