The BCcampus Research Fellows program provides support for B.C. post-secondary educators to conduct research on improving student learning and to share their results and experiences with peers in B.C. and beyond.

Project Title: Understanding and Implementing Trauma-Informed Post-Secondary Education through a Community of Practice

Research Focus: This applied research project aims to provide a small group of diverse post-secondary instructors with information and skills on trauma-informed education. The participating instructors will compose a community of practice, together learning, integrating, and reflecting on various teaching practices and philosophies foundational to student-centred, trauma-informed education.  

Biography: Matty Hillman, MA (CYC), is a counsellor, instructor, and educational developer at Selkirk College in the beautiful Kootenay region of B.C., the traditional territory of the Sinixt people. His research interests include sexual violence prevention and response on post-secondary campuses, trauma-informed post-secondary education, and radical youth work. Matty is a regular contributor to various BCcampus projects. As a muralist, he is especially interested in the intersection of youth work and public art, exploring the opportunity these complementary practices create for empowerment, community building, and social justice advancements.
