FLO – Synchronous is a three-week immersion into planning and facilitating live online sessions. Participants are introduced to best practice strategies, learn from examples of synchronous online facilitation, and practice in a supportive environment. It will help participants enhance skills needed to confidently and effectively facilitate synchronous online learning.
Cost:
FREE – Reg fees have been waived for this session!
Scheduled Sessions:
Tuesday Oct 24, 12-1pm PST
Monday Oct 30, 12-1pm PST
Friday Nov 10, 12-1pm PST
Additional Time Commitment:
Participants should expect to spend 6-8 hours for course activities during each of the three weeks. Those with no prior online teaching and learning experience can expect to invest more time. Continuous, active participation is necessary to make this course successful for everyone.
More About the Course:
There are two role choices (“tracks”) in this workshop — Reviewing Participant and Practicing Facilitator — allowing for flexibility in learning outcomes.
Track 1 – Reviewing Participants
Reviewing Participants are expected to:
- be an active participant in the course throughout its duration
- attend at least two of the three planned synchronous sessions hosted by course facilitators
- give feedback to Practicing Facilitators as they prepare for their facilitation
- attend at least two synchronous online sessions of Practicing Facilitators and give feedback to them (dates/times to be determined)
Track 2 – Practicing Facilitators
Practicing Facilitators are expected to:
- be an active participant in the course throughout its duration
- attend at least two of the three planned synchronous sessions hosted by course facilitators
- plan and facilitate a synchronous online session near the end of the course, either alone or in a pair (dates/times to be determined)
- ask for feedback from Reviewing Participants and course facilitators both as you plan your facilitated session and after your session, and reflect on that feedback.
Prior to the course, participants will receive a pre-workshop survey so the facilitators can get a sense of their expectations and familiarity with course design. They will also receive information to register for a SCoPE account, which is where they will find the online course overview. The course site will be available ahead of time so participants can familiarize themselves with the platform.
