Session Description:
In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, the online context has become an important component of learning relationships within community. The pandemic jolted us into a steep learning curve in this space. Through this session, we will explore models for, and examples of, reciprocal and meaningful community-engaged learning. We will review how the seamless integration of community projects and relationships into online course curricula can be accomplished when learners apply their digital skills in meaningful, community-focused projects while respecting the needs and desires of community.
About the Facilitator:
Rhianna Nagel (she/her) is the manager of Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) at the University of Victoria. With 15 years’ experience, she specializes in creating and supporting community and industry research, projects, field placements, and service learning, as well as building and sharing knowledge in these areas. She also intentionally uses research as a vehicle for enhancing CEL processes, supports, and practices. In 2022, she led the development of the Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning’s (CEWIL) Field Placement Toolkit for instructors.
