About the Session:
We invite people who support open education at post-secondary institutions in B.C. and the Yukon to a virtual conversation about their practice and challenges. This discussion will encompass topics such as:
- Methods for supporting open education initiatives at your institution
- Common challenges encountered in this endeavour
- Strategies for mutual support among peers
Following this event, our aim is to foster an active community of practice to sustain ongoing dialogue about open education within B.C. and the Yukon.
About the Facilitator:
Emily Schudel (she/her) is the chair of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and an instructional designer in Open Education at Camosun College. She has been an instructional designer for 30 years, working with faculty to enhance their courses with technology, teach blended courses (combining face-to-face with online technologies), and teach fully at a distance, using synchronous technologies (narrow-cast satellite, web-conferencing, audio-conferencing, tele-conferencing) and asynchronous technologies (like D2L). More recently, she completed the Creative Commons certificate and the Kwantlen Polytechnic Professional Program in Open Education, and is now working with faculty who are engaging in Open Education work using WordPress, Pressbooks, H5P, and other open platforms. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with hubby Kevin and their many kitties, as well as photography, blogging, walking, meditation, and creative writing.
