Dr. Jonathan Verrett, an Instructor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is investigating the economics of developing open textbooks to compare the development and costs through a lens of open textbooks vs. commercial publisher resources.

Steven Earle, a professor in the Earth Science Department at Vancouver Island University (VIU) – Open Learning and Thompson Rivers University (TRU), is working on understanding how students use open textbooks in their courses.

Florence Daddey, the Program Manager and Sessional Faculty for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation (CTLI) at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), is analyzing the use of OER in law enforcement courses in Year 1 vs. Year 2.

Erin Fields, Liaison Librarian and Flexible Learning Coordinator in the Humanities & Social Sciences Division at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is exploring the state of critical information literacy in action using open pedagogy.

2017 – 2018

Faculty Fellows

Through research and evaluation, the Faculty Fellows Dr. Jennifer Barker from Douglas College; Ken Jeffery, Instructional Designer at Royal Roads University (RRU); and Dr. George Veletsianos, Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning and Technology at Royal Roads University (RRU), collaborated on the creation of a report to address and identify Eight Patterns of Open Textbook Adoption in British Columbia.

Our 2016/17 Faculty Fellows: Jennifer Kirkey, Douglas College, Rod Lidstone, Camosun College and Arthur Gill Green, Okanagan College worked together to encourage greater educational and institutional uptake of open textbooks and the use of open educational resources in the B.C. post-secondary sector and beyond.
